Psödoefedrin soğuk algınlığı veya grip nedeniyle öksürük tedavisinde kullanılır. Sigara öksürüğü ile (flem) mukus veya balgam genellikle büyük miktarda olduğunda, astım veya amfizem ile oluşan kronik öksürük için kullanılmamalıdır.

Dekstrometorfan doğrudan beyindeki öksürük merkezi üzerine etki ederek öksürük rahatlatır.

Bu ilaç bir reçete olmadan kullanılabilir.

Herhangi bir bebek ya da bir çocuk için 4 yaş altı-the-counter (OTC) öksürük ve soğuk algınlığı ilacı vermek değil. Çok küçük çocuklarda bu ilaçların kullanılması ciddi veya muhtemelen yaşamı tehdit eden yan etkilere neden olabilir .
